Year 8
Summer to October 1/2 term:
Theatre in Education/Forum theatre.
October 1/2 term to Christmas
Working with masks. (Mask design, construction & choreography based on students’ thoughts on the pressures of popularity in Secondary school)
Christmas to February 1/2 term:
Murder Mystery unit.
February 1/2 term to Easter:
Shakespearean genres. (A practical exploration of the history play, romantic comedy and Shakespearean tragedy).
Easter to Whit 1/2 term:
Voice work, singing & dance. (A fun & practical unit to develop self-confidence)
Whit to Summer break:
Musical theatre.
Key Stage Four
The GCSE in Drama consists of three units.
Component 1. ‘Understanding Drama’ is assessed via a written examination.
Written exam is worth 40% of the GCSE
Component 2. ‘Devising Drama’
‘Devising Drama’ is worth 40% of the GCSE.
Component 3. ‘Texts in Practice’
‘Texts in Practice’ is worth 20% of the entire GCSE.
How is the course delivered?
- Through a variety of practical workshops which will help students to gain the competence and confidence necessary to work on performance projects.
- Via theoretical lessons where a range of dramatic genres will be discussed and studied.
- Through encouraging independence and initiative in the students who are on this course - this is essential!
A requirement of this course is that students must be prepared to attend extra-curricular rehearsals, learn lines and perform in front of their class peers.
