Curriculum Vision

 

We firmly believe that all students, irrespective of their starting point, are entitled to a broad and balanced curriculum, underpinned by high quality teaching and an effective approach to their social, moral, spiritual and cultural development, to help prepare them for life in modern Britain. Students will develop their understanding of career opportunities linked to all subjects in order to raise their aspirations.

The curriculum is logically sequenced and ensures our students have regular opportunities to practice what they know, constantly building and deepening their knowledge and skills.

Years 7 and 8

All students follow a broad and balanced curriculum which stretches and challenges but also provides the knowledge and skills to ensure that students reach their potential.  Throughout years 7 and 8 students follow the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science.  They also study; Modern Foreign Languages, Computing, Humanities (History, Geography, RE), a range of Technology subjects, Art, Drama, Music and PE giving them a varied and engaging daily diet of lessons and experiences.

Year 9 

In Year 9 the focus shifts to developing a deeper understanding of the subjects that they have chosen to specialise in. The additional concentrated time in these lessons will enable our students to develop the key skills and wider subject knowledge to help maximise their progress. This will build a strong foundation, which ensures that all students are sufficiently challenged according to their starting points, and able to grasp the key concepts needed for high-level success at Year 11 and beyond. 

Year 10 and 11

All students continue to study a wide range of GCSE and vocational subjects. We encourage our students to follow an EBacc curriculum route where appropriate. All students will study at least one subject from History/Geography/Spanish and all three are offered should a student wish to follow a purely academic route. Our vocational options include BTECs in Construction and Music as well GCSEs in Photography, Drama, Art, Resistant Materials, Physical Education, Music, Food and Child Development.

We offer a variety of courses allowing students to follow the route most appropriate to their needs, interests or future career path. Our curriculum is rigorous, challenging, creative, diverse and inspiring. It offers real opportunity to develop the skills and interests of our students and to enable them to leave school ready and equipped to move onto the next stage of their lives.

Personal development

We recognise that the personal development of students, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve.  We therefore aim to provide an education that allows our students to have the opportunities to explore and develop their own values and beliefs, spiritual awareness, high standards of personal behaviour, a positive caring attitude towards other people, an understanding of their social and cultural traditions and an appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures.

Enrichment

We recognise that not all students have had a wide range of life experiences outside of school and our curriculum is enhanced to ensure that we are fully developing their cultural capital.  A range of visits, external speakers, interactions with members of our local community and opportunities to engage in national events and competitions enables our students to develop the knowledge and understanding to succeed in life.
